Gladys Knight Opens Up Capital Jazz Fest
In the coming weeks, Gladys Knight, will be opening up the Capital Jazz Fest. The Friday night festivities kick of with An Evening of Music and Comedy, hosted by Alonzo Bodden and will feature Knight along with comedian Sinbad. The event begins at 7:30pm on the Pavilion stage.
Capital Jazz Fest runs from June 4-6, 2010 at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD! The 3-day summer spectacular is jam packed with artists workshops, meet & greets, good food, shopping, late night parties, relaxing in the sun and enjoying the top jazz performers of our time.
Making their first appearance at the festival this year include bassist/vocalist Esperanza Spalding, acapella group Naturally 7, Raphael Saadiq, and many more. Festival alumni returning to the stage include Kenny G, Ledisi, The Brand New Heavies, Brian Culbertson and Rachelle Ferrell.
Currently Gladys Knight, is out on the road touring through July. When she is not making music she keeps busy with her West African handcrafted beads, the Artisan Jewelry line. Knight also published her first cookbook in 2001, Her Personal Recipe for Living Well, Eating Right, and Loving Life! Her love for food continues with “Gladys Knight & Ron Winans’ Chicken and Waffles.” The restaurant’s concept follows the age old dilemma of deciding if you want to have breakfast or dinner? It is currently overseen by her son, Shanga.
